Bandages illustration

Aug 7th, 2010 by J. O'Brien

This summer I was commissioned by Tim Schafer at Treasury & Risk Magazine to illustrate an article about healthcare reform, equating mental health benefits with physical health benefits.

My concept sketches focused on a broken arm wrapped in a cast along with a view of the brain also wrapped in a cast. Tim chose the sketch with the price tags.

Below is line work created with a Pentel brush pen.

This is preliminary stage, line work with color and texture.

And here is the finished illustration.

Was this created in Photoshop? Illustrator? or both?

Hi Peg, just Photoshop, no Illustrator stuff for this one. Sometimes I will make a path in Illustrator and then copy and paste it into Photoshop, but lately not too often. I prefer making the shapes and lines by hand and scanning them in.
